Challenge
When a financial services firm was contemplating the migration of its reporting tools from Tableau and Business Objects to a module available in its ERP system, it needed a way to understand the potential impact and changes to its reporting capabilities.
The migration of data, processes, and systems represented a significant change, especially on accounting groups requiring easier creation of reports and accurate information without disruption. To better see the path forward, the company needed support demoing, understanding, and selecting the technology and reporting capabilities that could meet its vision.
How We Helped
CrossCountry Consulting’s Data Transformation & Analytics and Technology Architecture & Strategy teams immediately got to work assessing current-state capabilities and brainstorming a proof of concept. The project included:
- Leading reporting tool proof-of-concept for the loan accounting group, which included the use of more than 100+ reports to support management analytics, financial controls, and SEC/regulatory filing reporting.
- Developing a scoring matrix that included technical, functional, and non-functional requirements.
- Coordinating demos with implementation partners and members of business and technology teams.
- Providing guidance to implementation partner developers on reporting requirements, frequencies, volumes, and current-state pain points.
- Presenting results and findings to management to support the business case, gain approvals, and proceed with next steps in implementation.
Leveraging our proprietary finance and accounting system transformation methodology, CrossCountry enabled firm stakeholders to quickly remove blockers and gain the buy-in needed to keep the project on track and on budget.
Results
With a clearer, more holistic view of the reporting migration into its ERP, the firm was able to approach the transition with greater awareness of both the risk and value potential. This led to tangible benefits in the form of:
- Faster report creation via direct guidance to partner developers.
- Cost savings against original estimates as the project ran smoother and faster than planned.
- Proof-of-concept-initiated migration plan, which charted a path toward migrating all management analytics and external reports into the ERP system – a vision the firm was initially hesitant and uncertain about.
- Seamless project management and stakeholder management to expedite approvals, align on a vision, and coordinate various internal and external groups across workstreams.
Now in possession of all the key variables, impacts, and considerations relating to its reporting tool migration, the firm was able to build a consensus and act decisively on next steps, investments, and timelines to ensure a frictionless implementation.
